Miracle

[ Crossposted from Tell A Short Story ]
It was a brightful saturday of December. Nidhi and Bhavana were on their way to home from college on rickshaw. They were happily chatting about their teachers and classmates. At a traffic signal, when their rickshaw was waiting, a small boy came with a snake in a box in his hand and started begging. The two girls didn't pay any heed to him and kept talking.

All of sudden the boy started shouting "See Miracle of Lord Shiva". Hearing this the girls turned towards the boy. The moment boy saw that these girls are paying attention to him, he started talking to them. He told "Madam make some offering to Snake and Lord Shiva will accept it". Initally girls didn't believe him and were again busy in themselves. But the boy insisted. Finally Nidhi told Bhavana, let us give something  to this boy and let us see what happens.

When the boy found that girls are now believing him, he told "madam give me a five rupee note, I will offer it to Lord Shiva" and you see that he will accept it. Nidhi gave a five rupee note to the boy. Boy kept the note in this hand, closed his palm, murmured some mantras and then opened his hand. There was no note in his hand. He told " See the miracle, god has accepted your offering". You are blessed by Lord Shiva.

Nidhi got impressed and cried "wonderful!!!". Bhavana was sensible and intelligent and for her it was hard to believe that  God accepted the five rupee note. She just thought for a while, blasted on the boy "Don't try to trick us, tell us where is my five rupee note ?". The boy insisted that Lord Shiva had accepted the offering. Bhavana got down from rickshaw and caught the boy with his collar and shouted at him "If you don't speak up truth, I will give you in police". The boy got scared and opened his palm and showed the five rupee note. Actually he had folded the rupee and had hidden it between his two fingers, in a way that no-one can see it.

The boy returned five rupee note to Bhavana and started pleading for mercy " Please don't give me to police, I will never cheat again" and started crying.  Bhavana felt that boy had learnt his lesson and left him.

Compassion has no language

It was five o'clock of a summer evening, It is time when number of flights arrive at Mumbai airport. Mumbai airport is jam-packed with passengers. Today also it was huge rush on airport terminal. Some were looking for luggage trolley, some were busy in picking their luggage from conveyor belt, some were still waiting for their luggage to come and some were leaving for their homes happily after collecting their baggage. It was a complete hustle and bustle on airport terminal. Everybody was in complete rush to take their luggage and leave for home.

Amidst this, there was an old couple. They were very old and barely able to walk straight. They disembarked the plane and were coming to collect their luggage. When they were coming down on escalator, the small bag in old man's hand fell down, stumbled all the way in escalator and was thrown far off  in the lobby.  The old man walked slowly towards the bag to collect it. There were so many people in the airport nearby but nobody bothered to come forward and help them.

There was a foreigner lady and along with her son. They were also waiting for their baggage to come. When the boy saw the bag thrown far off in lobby and old man walking slowly towards it, he just rushed to help him. He got the bag quickly and gave it to old man. He held his hand and helped him to walk till baggage collection point. He also went to old lady and helped her. He got a trolley for them and kept their bags in it.

Old lady loved and blessed the boy with tears in her eyes. She turned towards her husband and said 'Out of so many people only his small boy had compassion to help us. He doesn't even understand our language but came forward.  Really compassion has no language."
