True Gift

[ Crossposted from Tell A Short Story ]
After reaching home she just bumped on the sofa, Being out and out tired after a long shopping day she was much relieved to give some rest to herself. It was her son, Aman's birthday party and she was on full shopping spree for this.

She had to buy lots of things, new dresses for Aman, sweets , candies, lots of lights, streamers and balloons to decorate the house. The list seemed to be never ending and her desire to get everything perfect was making it harder. She had already sent b'day invitations to all her friends and relatives last week. Aman had invited number of his friends from school and neighbourhood. She was expecting a big gathering. So, She was very careful about the preparations, she just wanted to make everyone happy and satisfied.

On the Birthday Nisha dressed Aman in a nice new shirt and trouser with a beautiful jacket on it.New pair of shoes and a good cap was adding to his dress. The whole house was decorated wonderfully by the family members. All was set at home . To make Aman happiest soul, a very yummy cake was waiting for him in the centre of the hall. Guests started coming as per the scheduled party time. Soon followed his friends from school and neighourhood. He was cheered to see all of them. Cake cutting done and everybody sang songs for the birthday boy. The food was great and everybody enjoyed it to the fullest.

After the party Aman has loads of gifts to open. He started ripping off the nicely packed gifts to see what is inside. He was very happy to get nice toys and dresses. He was curiously searching for a particular gift by his best friend. Then he saw one small packet gifted by Rahul. He opened it hurrily and merrily. It was hand made card with lots of wishes and beautiful poem written on it. Aman became very sad and started crying.

When Nisha saw him crying she asked what happened. He told "I was expecting a nice gift from my best friend, and he gave me this normal card. I don't like him. I always give him expensive gifts on his birthday and he gave me just a card. I will never talk to him." Nisha was able to understand the situation. She calmed him down and gave him a chocolate to eat. Then she told Aman, "Son, price of the gift does not matter, what matters is the feelings and best wishes of the giver. Your friend has given you a true gift. He has written his feelings for you and your friendship in this card. It is a gift to be treasured for lifetime". He is your true friend." Aman listen to his mother carefully and wiped his tears. He said "Mother, Now I have understood true meaning of gift. Thanks a lot ." And he went to his room to pay with toys.

Nisha was happy and satisfied, that she could give a nice and meaningful birthday to her son.
